Vanuatu Launches Global Passport Enrolment System

ree

Vanuatu has recently modernized its citizenship and passport enrolment system, introducing mandatory in-person biometric registration and the rollout of advanced electronic passports. This marks a major step toward greater efficiency, security, and credibility in how the nation manages its citizenship program.

Under the new system, all applicants—whether through naturalization or investment—must appear in person at approved enrolment centers to provide biometric data such as fingerprints, facial recognition, and other key identifiers. To make this process more accessible, Vanuatu has expanded enrolment beyond Port Vila to include overseas centers in locations like Hong Kong, Dubai, and Brussels, with additional sites planned. Mobile biometric kits are also being deployed to serve citizens in remote provinces.

The introduction of biometric e-passports ensures that every Vanuatu passport now meets international ICAO standards, with enhanced security features designed to combat fraud and identity misuse. This not only strengthens the integrity of Vanuatu’s citizenship program but also improves the country’s reputation with international partners—helping pave the way for stronger visa-free travel agreements.

For applicants, the benefits are clear:

  • Faster Processing – Biometric verification reduces delays and streamlines approval.

  • Greater Convenience – Overseas and mobile enrolment centers cut down on travel burdens.

  • Enhanced Security – Stronger checks protect against fraud and ensure credibility.

  • Global Recognition – Upgraded passports bolster trust and improve international mobility.

In short, Vanuatu’s new enrolment system represents a forward-looking reform that balances accessibility for applicants with stronger safeguards for the nation—making the citizenship process smoother, safer, and more efficient.
